Quail_Antwerp: Words from the Barnyard...

i will say for future reference a healthy bobcat will not typically even attempt to take on a humanbeing. a female with cubs or a rabid bobcat wont give you that same courtesy but most healthy normal bobs wont bother wiht people, they only grow to about 35lbs for a BIG male and an adult human is too much of a risk.

cats and small dogs however are at risk and i probebly wouldnt allow small children to play outside unspervised after sunset in a bobcat territory.
only say that because it suprised me when i heard people around my town freeking out about bobcats in the area, talking about how they couldnt go for a walk in the evenings anymore 9like any of them do anyway) because a bobcat might attack and eat them...

im like....you realize a bobcat is about the same size as a cocker spaniel right?!
i was certain they MUST be talkng about mountain lions (many bleive there are mountain lions in the state but DEP says not)
nope, they were adamant bobcats were going to stalk them on their evening walks and comnsume them...

im REALY gald it wasnt anything dangerous comming at you and im glad the fall didnt do any serious damage, but seriously lady, no more falling down for you!
Hope the missing chickens come home and that the roo makes it. :(

 Sorry for laughing. I would have done the same thing probably. Hope you are OK today!

You might want to consider getting some solar yard lights installed so your "runway" is clear and lit at night, in case of the zombie apocalypse, or bobcats, or playful dogs.

Ok so little update -

Good news - 1 of the missing Maran pullets showed up completely unscathed! The Maran cockerel has perked up QUITE a bit, and even with his back wound, is out eating bugs, drinking water, and sporting a crooked tail.

No sign of the other MIA Pullet or my BLRW Cockerel, but we did find lots of evidence of feathers.

After looking at the damage, and the surrounding areas, AND looking at how Earnhardt got away from his box, we are 98% sure this was a coyote attack, and our Blue Heeler was doing his job and protecting the yard!

Earnhardt is the dog that allows the chickens to eat with him, so I have a hard time believing he'd break free just to eat the chickens.

We have veto'ed chaining him again. He now has permanent residence in the kennel that we were using to house turkeys (but we sold the turkeys!) and I like that arrangment MUCH better. I think he does, too.

I'm still embarrassed that I thought my dog might be a bob cat (and that I was even remotely scared of a small bob cat that would be smaller than my dog lol) or a coyote (the idea of this scared me much more) and E says he cannot wait to tell the tale in all its hilarioty and silliness to his dad.

He did go get the suitcase down for me (finally) so I am packing my hospital bag today.

A game cam here would have provided some INTERESTING pictures....... glad you're all right.

One night several years ago my Aunt Glenna who lives in Kansas was coming home from work about 1 AM and saw a pair of those golden eyes and jumped back into her car. In her case she spent the NIGHT in the car when she found out those eyes belonged to a Mountain Lion that was trying to get acquainted with her neighbor's Yaks!

It took her a LONG time before she would go outside at night alone again.

Glad that your gold eyes were just dog eyes. :)
