Quick Q about baking soda

LOL, this reminds me of a funny...we buy it in those giant bags because of our pool and I always take out enough to fill a ziplock bag and toss it in my spice cupboard. One day I was baking and the kids were asking questions about the ingredients and somehow the baking soda ended up being called "Mommy's special white powder" Oh kids... I told them to never say that when grandma's here.

:lau I have never heard that term before...:gig I bet snortin straight baking soda would burn and not in a good way.

Baking soda as mentioned before can last several +years, if you can keep a box that long. I put mine in zip lock bags to keep the humidity out. When I buy baking powder, cornstarch, and the such I transfer them immediately to a sealed glass container. If you don't use the soda that often do the same.
Thanks ya'll, this has been very helpful. I was think of stocking up on BS for my long-term-storage/emergency prep, so wanted to ensure the longest possible shelf-life.

xpc, when you say "sealed glass container", do you mean like a canning jar? Or one of those old-timey glass jars with the rubber gaskit & metal latch? (Sorry, don't know the proper name for those things!!)

I store everything that fits in salsa jars even if I have to cut her up in little pieces. The website wifezilla posted last week said 3 years and the box I just bought says 1 year - but there is nothing in it to go bad but if gotten wet it will become ineffective.

The FDA requires a expiration date and can not be longer then a year unless you spend the big money for advance testing to be done by an independent lab.
