i have not read the book, but i've read her site and i guess i'm one of the gals she talks about.
however, i'm not trying to make a statement or pitch in with the "battle of the sexes" or any of the stuff. i'm doing this because i like it.
i think pop culture has made it hard for some to admit they want to stay home and "opt out" of the normal consumerism. which is sad.
i have a friend who very proudly rushes her toddlers off to daycare b/c she doesnt have time to get their breakfast and because she doesnt "have to" because she makes so much money. i think this is very VERY sad. i wont even let anyone else feed by dogs.
so i guess some of us are radical homemakers but i prefer the term 'farm wife' because it calls to the long and glorious tradition of doing it yourself either by choice or because you have to.
and to the haters who think i'm weak because i like doing "girl" stuff like cooking... i dare them to start where i start with a meal - out in the yard and where step one is "shoot it in the head."
Sweetie-pies, it is now called "climate change" because "global warming" is misleading. It means more extremes in the heat/cold of summer/winter. I am not writing this to debate it, just to remind people here not to jump on someone who believes different things. Especially a newbie. Acceptance and being nice is the hallmark of this forum, after all. And being more self-sufficient!
I sometimes call myself a "recovered feminist." I always make sure I praise sahm's whenever I come across one. They tend to be apologetic about it when they first meet someone new, and I make sure I let them know that I support their decision wholeheartedly and that if I had children, I would absolutely do the same thing.
Mine too. My lifestyle may look like its geared towards that agenda, but its not.
For example, this whole polar bear thing. The claims are quite literally false.
Moving along
Book of the month club sounds neat, but we have zero budget for books
It would have to be a commonly found book at samller more rural libraries.
and hee hee hee i'm limiting my own selections to books about the roman legions and other historical warfare novels. i gotta keep up with my axe-wielding battle techniques
;-)
ps wz we knew you were commenting about the book excerpt.. we just gotta make sure the new folks know about our inside jokes.
