For the most part, pretty good. :) Had some ups and downs here, but we've picked ourselves up and are recovering.

I'm not on BYC much. You should pop in over here more often. I think Hardly moved on, tho. lol
 
I think it is simply a story to make those who live the more mainstream lives - the ones who want *more*, but also happen to look down on those who don't want that and don't have that - the story is just to make them think, that maybe they shouldn't degrade or put up such a boundary.

If you don't do that, then the story shouldn't be offending.

The 'poor farm' folks never went and boasted all about what they have; a city kid comes to the realization that after the bells and whistles are gone, that after the glitter fades, people without a lot of money and all those without certain things still possess the power to love and be happy.

C'mon guys, its Martin Luther King day.. Don't fight!

This story made me want to move back to the country before I even move into my house in town! The best things in life ARE in the country, ARE in the selfsufficient lifestyle, and ARE in enjoying the nature around us. That's what I got out of this story.
It wan't about money at all, that's not how I read it anyway... :) but about happiness, freedom, and self sufficiency :love

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:12-13

Don't mean to be preachy, but it seems to me that the key is contentment -- being happy with what you have and not worrying about what others have or if their conversations could be interpreted this way or that. Contentment combined with humility and a heart that is open to the inner parts of one another and not the outer manifestations of wealth or the lack threeof, that's a recipe for the kind of joy that I am deeply seeking in my life.

Honestly, the word "contentment" is exactly how I feel everyday I wake up. :) Everytime I see my daughter smile, everytime I go for a nice long ride in the forest etc. LIFE IS GOOD and for me LESS IS MORE :)
 
I liked the story, Morel! :) I don't it has anything to do with reverse snobbery at all....it just is what it is. A story about not judging a book by it's cover.

I guess that story could have been from the other perspective and seemed highly snobbish...so I can see where FarmerChick is coming from also.

On this forum, we tend to eschew material things more often than not. Out in the world, folks like us are probably considered one slice less than a full loaf, or just plain out poor people.

I would venture to guess that this story was from a worldly view of poor vs. rich as opposed to the "we're not poor, we are sustainable and we don't need material things to feel good about ourselves" crowd. :P

I think this story was probably posted to make someone feel good about their home and lifestyle after they posted a thread about second guessing their SS life? I could be quite wrong, but I don't think Morel had any other motive than this when posting this story.

Maybe none of that made any sense? :(
