Rocket stove

I love the idea of a rocket stove!! I was planning on building one out of bricks, then I saw the "in the ground" version on here somewhere that I loved.

Yours looks like a portable version. Very cool! Did you use an adhesive or did you weld them together or are they just sorta wedged together?

That is way cool!!!!

Ash as insulator, how ingenious!

Instead of using double wall stovepipe, could you not use Selkirk pipe that's already insulated?

I've got to try making one of these before it's time to boil maple sap down in the spring...

do you mean Canadian double wall rather than USA double wall - is that a metric thing?

It could also be that I'm thoroughly confused :)

Our stovepipe up through the attic is Selkirk, and I just assumed that was the only type pipe they made... it's steel, with 1" of solid pack insulation between the outer (8") and inner layers of the stovepipe...

Sort of like this:

I love the idea of insulating it with ashes! A use for them :)

I really am going to have to get going if I am going to get one of these built before maple season. I was planning on making out of fire bricks.
