Just got done making up a 3 gallon batch of root beer to ferment.

Airrated, bungged and airlocked in 5 gallon glass carboy.

General recipe ---> https://wellnessmama.com/11392/homemade-root-beer/#wprm-recipe-container-203644

Tasted good going into the carboy, tingly tongue and all.

Hoping for a successful ferment :fl

Day 2 - had a heck of a time getting fermentation to start. I ended up putting the carboy on a heating pad and covering it with an old sweatshirt. Now I have a bubble through the air lock about once every 5 seconds. I don't think my ginger bug for this batch is as active, as the one I used to ferment my blueberry ginger cream ale.

It was near 60 degrees outside yesterday, we cut off the heat in the house and opened the windows. I think that had a lot to do with it also.

I suspect this batch will be at least 10 days to finish fermenting, maybe even longer...

Day 4 - big bubbles, no troubles. Still on the heating pad but so far so good. No signs of secondary infection, fingers remain crossed.

When my friends would brew beer, they would put it in the closet where the water heater was. It would stay nice and warm and bubble away. Their dog would sit in front of the door and growl every time it burped, lol! They called it the monster in the closet.
