Weren't there about a dozen recalls because of shoddy production and unsanitary conditions BEFORE the shutdown - while all the inspectors were doing their inspecting??? And the problems were only found after people started getting sick?

True, this has always been the case, but, if there are no watch dogs, the food production system will become even more shoddy.

Exactly right. Now there are fewer people checking? Who knows what may slip through? Because things slip through in "normal" circumstances, whatever that may be. What is going on and being done now?
