Today we went out to save some salamanders from vehicles. We thought it was a tad early so we expected to save 5 maybe 10. We ended up saving 68! All spotted salamanders.
The salamanders will cross unti lthey reach vernal pools, which are pools that fill up in the spring and often dry by summer. They go to these pools to breed. Usually there are 1-2 Salamander rains, and it is looking like a good one on Sunday as well.
Never heard of it....thanks for the education and the great pics! And for using your valuable time to save some wonderful critters. Hooray for you and your friends who helped!
Those are whopping big sallies!!! Its a great thing to see folks your age caring about something like a salamander....gives me hope. Most of the teens around here would be driving up and down the road to see how many they could kill!
