Seed grown fruit trees

The two grape seedlings didn't survive the winter. One plum appears to have survived, but rabbits got to it late winter and it had to come back from the root.

Since I've been having a hard time with plums, a friend sent me seeds for a plum x peach cross and a plum x cherry cross. Plum x peach is doing great. Every plum x cherry has struggled. Most are seemingly without chlorophyll, the stem and leaves ranging from red to dark purple.

I have more almond and plum seeds stratifying.

Peaches and apricots survived the winter. I planted out another apricot in the apricot row early this spring. Doing fine so far.

The seedling peaches bloomed for the first time. They all bloomed at around the same time, just before a freak freeze in March, when it got down to 18 F.

Another set of peaches has survived its first summer and first winter. Peaches seem to be the hands-down winner in this survival contest.

Apricots didn't bloom but otherwise doing great. Maybe next year.

The two seedlings that I thought were apples are definitely pears. I have 20 more apple seedlings to go in the ground, and lots of apple seeds.

One change I have made is to protect the seedlings inside a "cage" of chicken wire so chickens and rabbits can't get to them. Way too many of the survivors died at the teeth of rabbits after surviving the winter.
