Spinning wool....experts I need your input.

All I know is that the "handcrafted" yarns at the stores are often priced a little more than the standard yarns. It is easier to crochet with (especially if you aren't that great at it, like me  )

I like your yarn! Good job!

Beautiful! I love that color. I am a spinning nut. Sometimes I think I like it even more than knitting, though I'm new to spinning and have been knitting since I was little. Keep up the good work!

Unaspenser, you sound like a really neat person! I would love to spin my little sheep's wool! Her wool is supposed to be easy to "hand spin"...she is a border Chevoit.

Scottish folk dancer? Wow!!!!!!

Justusnak,

Did you mention how you dyed that wool? It is such a pretty chocolate brown! Is your ewe that color, or did you dye it? It looks so soft, I would love a sweater made out of that!

Where did you get your spinning equiptment?

BBH, my little ewe is that color.

Her name is April. Her wool is so soft...I just love it.
I am looking forward to spring, so I can shear her again! :P
I got my cards here in town, at an antique shop. They were $35.00. MUCH better than $65 online.
The spindle I am borrowing from the lady who is GIVING me a spinning wheel...and lessons!

Isn't she beautiful!!! :love

My mother is an antique dealer and when I was a kid she had a pair of cards and a spinner in her shop!!!! I wish she still had that!!! She taught me how to card and spin wool from that thing. But alas, it is long gone! (Everything in our house had a price tag on it!!)

Is April a shetland?

BBH, just keep your eyes open ...you will find them. I am looking for a backup pair of cards...just to have.
Yes, April is a Shetland. The other 3 I have are Shetlands as well...but are white. Nelly has great long fibered wool. I was told her wool is a "spinners dream" We will see come next year! ;)

Aww thanks BBH! You seem pretty fascinating yourself. I wish I had a lovely wee Cheviot like yours. I've heard they are good for learning to spin because the fibers are relatively long. Let me know how it goes!

And yes, I love Scottish dance! I have been doing dancing of all kinds since I started ballet at age 3, but Scottish dance has a special place in my heart. I started taking classes when I was on an exchange program there in 2004 and by the time I left a year later I was dancing/teaching/taking classes 3-4 nights a week. It's fantastic. My dance group has a website... http://thistleandghillies.org (mods, feel free to remove if there's any problem with sharing that).

Your ewe is gorgeous! The brown fleece I am currently spinning is that lovely chocolate color, I can just picture a nice woven blanket from the yarn (right. maybe 20 years from now...:lau)
