Goals for 2010....

Choose my favorite 30 chickens and sell the rest.

That's the only goal I'm setting because it will take me all year to make the decisions.

1. To get my very own coop built and chicks bought and raised to laying age.
2. To educate myself more on local gardening needs
3. To keep my little garden producing year-round.
4. To can as much food as possible to guard against hard times, and for convenience purposes.
5. Continue to build a well-stocked pantry of store bought goods.
6. Find a local source of rabbit meat.

2010 already, wow.

Good Thread DrakeMaiden! :thumbsup

Build bigger, better and warmer chicken coop.
Have a barn built for horses.
Cross fence the pasture for optimal grazing.
Still want to make a ROCKET STOVE for outside. (Sounds easy enough.)
Add on to the veggie garden...what seemed so big when I built it now seems so tiny!
We have a small wood burning stove, I would love to get a larger one that doesn't take so much baby sitting!!!
Breed a sheep so I can begin milking her!

Paint more paintings!!!!
I think your wood stove is feline certified. Beautiful kitty!
Milk sheep are a good idea. I'm playing with that idea too. Their milk is supposed to be awesome for cheese making.

Well, these are the plans in progress and will probably be done by or in 2010.

Get a milk cow. Looking at one now.

Raise a calf or two or the freezer.

Raise a pig or two for the freezer.

Work on replacing mutt meat rabbits with purebred rabbits, so I may show. Expanding to include a few more does.

Start and maintain several beehives. Will be reserving the nucs by Nov. 12.

Start an herb garden.

Learn to make cheese, ice cream, soap, lotion, and other various products with raw milk.

Expand the worm bins. Even contemplating, meal worms and crickets. Composting, chicken feed, and bait sales.

Many of those are in progress now. :D

Is now the time of year to order bees?
Should I be doing that now for the spring?
Do you have a link of a place to order them?

Both bee clubs I've attended suggested "reserving" them now. I am getting nucs, which if I remember correctly are "mini-hives" that are already set up with the bees, 5 frames or so. Instead of ordering a box of bees to be shipped and then trying to get them to take yourself. I've been told several times to reserve the nucs now and not wait 'til spring which many people do and then nucs are in high demand.

As for a place to order them, I'm buying local. So, no, I really don't have a link for a place for you to order them. I think many people use brushy mountain for supplies, maybe they have bees?

Wow, great lists all of you!

I'm afraid I'm with you Quail, in terms of needing to reduce the # of birds we are keeping.

LOL, Dragonlaurel, feline certified. :D That counts for something!

"One day at a time" for sure! I think that is why I started this thread . . . so I could renew my enthusiasm for new projects. The ones currently on the front burner are not motivating me right now.

I was reading the book "Urban Farmer" and the author made it sound like buying a box of bees and releasing them into their new hive is really easy. :hu

1. Dont' kill everything I plant.
2. Finish the cob oven. Only have the base so far.
3. Organize and clean the garage so it is actually functional.
4. Live off my food storage, spending only $25 a month on staples.
5. Work less hours at my money job, and more as a SS woman.
