My goodness, all these versions are so confusing! I'm using a Kindle and have a couple copies. I notice things are different in the two versions. Isn't that rather confusing?

I agree the King James version is the most grand and dramatic. But what version would be the one least translated from the language Jesus spoke, what was that, Aramaic? I have been looking at some of the other Kindle versions.

True. Jesus spoke Aramaic, but which of the dozens of versions is most probable is the question. Even back when Jesus was walking around talking there were regional discrepancies in the Aramaic language. Samaria, Jerusalem, Damascus, Rome, etc. all had their own version of the Aramaic language at that time. The closest known language would probably be something like Koine Greek or Hebrew which if I am not mistaken were derivative of the Phonecian language. So, I have no idea what Jesus actually spoke, nor does anyone else for that matter. There is only speculation.

Personally I like reading from the New American Standard Version best. Just reads easiest to me. However we also have a King James and BIG Strong's Concordance to reference and compare.

The concordance has Hebrew and Greek and a list of places where the same word was used for comparison and learning. Hubby taught me to use that. ;)

I need a good concordance. I don't have one :( I look everything up on the internet though, but then you often have to weed through everything to get to the truth rather than just someones opinion. It takes more time, but I also learn a lot more.

We have had ours for years. My MIL got it for hubby one year for Christmas a long time ago.

I have NKJV, NCV, NASB, KJV, and HCSB. Of all of these versions, I always come back to the NKJV. The NCV that I have is a devotional Bible with commentary by Lucado. It is written in the most plain english imaginable and is actually the identical wording as the children's Bibles are written in. When i come across something I just do not understand, I look it up in each version, and usually between them all, I finally get it. I have a Biblical encyclopedia and a very good concordance. The encyclopedia is very helpful in coming to terms with things that are hard to accept on their own.

I will hush now ;) and get back to the study at hand. I need to go and read for awhile.

thanks for the clarification and reminder!

In the back of some Bibles you have a small concordance. It helps you locate certain Bible verses by a word contained in the verse. The big concordances which are HUGE books contain every word in the Bible. Say you want to do a study on healing. You would look up heal, healed, healing, etc. and the concordance will show you every location in the Bible of those words. Then you can do your own study! You can also use it to find original Hebrew and Greek meanings of the words in the Bible. Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible is good for the King James versions. There is also an NIV Exhaustive Concordance.

Strong's Concordance is also good for pressing flowers. :hide
