While Revelation is an interesting book, I feel that for the good of the group we should stick w/books that will be more helpful to everyone.
As for studying the Bible, this is not pointed at anyone person.
1st, in order to REALLY study the Bible, you need to be a Christian. Otherwise, while you may enjoy the stories, enjoy the majesty of the language, etc, it will basically remain a book of mysteries to you. The reason being is that the true teacher of the Bible is not man, but the Holy Spirit. John 14:26 says, But the Comforter, who is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatever I have said unto you. And John 16:13 says, Nevertheless, when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself, but whatever He shall hear, that shall He speak, and He will show you things to come.
At first, when you start to study the Bible, you'll probably be believing things because that's what you've been taught. But, as you grow, that
will change. If you read the story of the woman at the well in John 4,
it says in verse 39, and many of the Samaritans of that city believed
on Him for the saying of the woman, then in verse 42 it says, Now we
believe, not because of thy saying; for we have heard Him ourselves,
and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world. In
Acts 17:10-15, we have the story of the Bereans. They searched the
scriptures daily to be sure that what they were being taught was
correct.
Like James, I like to pray b4 I study to be sure that I'm opened to the
leading and guiding of the Holy Spirit. As for other things, you need
to find the way that best suits you, whether it's studying the Bible in
the original language, comparing verses, or whatever, the important
thing is to just leave yourself open to the guiding of the Spirit.
