I have been told that putting a little sulphur my seed potatoes would deter potato bugs. Please note that I am talking about the cut potato seed that is put in the ground and not the plant. Has anyone tried this?

I haven't heard of this... I think, though, that the potato beetle begins its life in our gardens after flying in. At least, that's the first developmental stage I have ever seen it to be in... Then, it lays eggs, etc. So, I'm not sure how sulfur in the ground would affect that process.

I use to broadcast sulphur on my lawn to kill chiggers. One application a year and it worked great. Don't know if that helps...

I did some searching on the net and found that the sulfur on the spud seeds was applied because the it will help prevent soil-related diseases. Nothing was mentioned about it helping to deter potato bugs. Guess I'll still have to pick them off by hand.

I cut my seed spuds today and dusted them with sulfur.
