A number of years ago, the wife thought she was helping by having the township road crew give us a dump truck load of free dirt that they had from digging ditches. I have been fighting this nasty root-spreading ivy/vine in the garden for almost 6 years since then. I have it just about eradicated. I sacrificed a big chunk of garden last year to Round-up to knock it back. It's now still only in the old compost area and started in the asparagus. Working on it...the compost area is starting to look pretty clear.

the lettice we got is huge!! when i transplated it from the greenhouse, it looked like it was gonna die a few weeks ago. lol. the spinach is getting pretty big, and strangely one has already started getting ready to have flowers, wtf! peas have flowers, potato row i "mounded", brocoli and cauliflower are starting to look better, the zuchinni/squash plants are huge!some other things growing kind of weak though..the honey bees are crazy and you can actually smell a wonderful honey smell within 20 ft of one of the hives, its working hard!
the tomatoes are starting to get about a ft high. the corn and wheat crops look very good, the corn seedling are starting to really look like the characteristics of a corn stalk, about a 1/2 to ft high. i do worry about the spacing messing up the growth, but so far it seems like things are goin good. its a good experiment, because we have never done this seriously before. lol.

i hope everyone gets a huge harvest!!!!! yeeaahh!!

Cool - the spinach may be starting to bolt if you're having a lot of heat and no real rain.

I picked all of my carrots today. Some stankin vine was wrapped around all of them...no idea what it was, but it was smothering them out, so I picked them all. I wound up with about 2 pounds of baby carrots. I paid a quarter for that seed packet, so I guess that's not too shabby I hated to pick them but I had no choice. They are quite tasty though I think I'll put some of them in a roast tomorrow

nice!! i have had trouble with the carrots, i even somehow got ones growing from last yr they came up again, they were barely growing last yr, but this yr it has huge growth, mmmm roast sounds soo good, and using ur own harvest, thats soo awesome! good job

is it like a clingy like vine? like when your cloths touch it it sticks to it like a velcro? we had something like that here, it was crazy, we tore most of it out and let it dry in the driveway to kill it, still smaller pieces pop up ,but its alot more controlled. it also came from free dirt lol..

Just keep an eye on it. I try to burn the vines.

I need to weed the black beans and lettuce. Some of the zuke seeds look like they may have sprouted.

The mess around the carrots was horrible. No free dirt here, just compost from the chooks, and I have never seen a vine like that before.

GNT this was a slick vine, not clingy, but wrapped around everything in sight. stupid carrot killer vine
