Well after a lot of burns and a very unhappy mother we've decided to purchase a Tomato press for this year. Does anyone have one? How much did you pay for yours? How hard was it for you to find one?

I have access to a restaurant supply store called Hendrix and they can order most things but some things have to be on order for ever and ever, like my bread cutting guide which is on order until they have a minimum order built up.

I have an old funnel shaped thing with a wooden stick ( for a lack of a better thing to call it, and it has three removable legs. I use it for tomatoes, applesauce etc. I paid $7 for it at an antique-ee type second hand store.

Thanks SKR8PN! I'm going to see if Berry Hill has something similar. They have a beautiful hand crank butter churn and an electric one but they're so spendy :( I hate to think how much something like that would cost lol.

This is what I've found so far from Berry Hill...

Way too expensive, I wonder if the site you gave me SKR8PN ships to Canada...

I also found this one which looks promising..

I have a Squeezo, which is very like the one in your second link, but all the pieces are metal. I've had it for 25+ years, and am very happy with it. Don't know if they are still being made though; and I don't remember what I paid for it.

And, after a quick search, I see that they are still being made, but are more expensive than they were, and more than you probably want: http://www.homesteadhelpers.com/get_item_sqd_deluxe-squeezo-strainer.htm

Wow that is quite expensive!

I figure as long as all the mechanical parts are metal, then a few pieces of plastic are okay.

I got my squeezo at a yard sale for $5.00. I love it and it's a very popular item for my daughters to borrow from me. We do applesauce and tomatoes in it. This year I am going to experiment more with it. Look in 2nd hand stores and Salvation Army and yard sales, if you have the time. Good luck finding something. :)

This is the perfect tool for the job. Makes great applesauce, too. But I think you can find it for somewhere else for half the price.

I have this one, works great!

http://www.leevalley.com/en/garden/page.aspx?cat=2,2120&p=44040

Bought it last spring and it's more than paid for it in the dozens of jars of tomatoes we put up. I don't use it for applesauce though, we like ours chunky. I did use it to puree some of the mangoes in my Mango Chutney and it worked great for that :)
