gotta laugh, weddings, well they bring out the strangeness in everybody!
I can relate to the barefoot, backyard wedding, that is what I wanted way way way back in the day. Course, my mother had other ideas, and I too ended up with a fancy dancy wedding where I didn't know most of the people there - with a reception at a fancy dancy hotel, top floor banquet room overlooking the city.....
at the reception, the hotel/catering folks got a hold of me and ushered me into a side room. Asked me to sit down, there was a box of tissues prominently set on the table, there are 5, count them, 5 people with very serious looks on their faces, they say, we have something we need to tell you. I'm thinking, oh sh*t, somebody is dead.....but they say, clutching each other for support....the wedding cake dropped on the floor.
whoohee! I just laughed. I mean, what are you going to do? I think it is funny they wanted to tell me, a 20 year old girl, and NOT my mom, who definitely was the bridezilla. They looked at each other, and said, no you don't understand, the wedding cake - it is in pieces.
I just laughed again. I was so relieved, and probably overtired, overstressed, etc. I said ok, what do you think we should do? They looked at each other, and one guy steps forward and says the hotel will foot the bill for an extravagant dessert buffet, and they would have a small cake for the cake cutting. I say fine, and get up to leave, the main guy is so relieved, he is just about in tears.
I don't think my mom even noticed!
Anywhoo, have a great wedding, enjoy everyone, and don't sweat the small stuff!
