Until Eric wakes up and make some changes you can't really help him much. You don't need the drama, and he is blind to it all. Until he sees it he won't change.
I would make sure he knows that you guys are always there for him no matter what, but keep your distance until he comes looking for you.

His wife dosen't love him, his parent's don't love him, we were they only people that gave a darn.

Do you love him?

If you do, you need to tell him. Tell his wife that you and your husband love him and tell her if she doesnt get the sh!t cleaned up, you are going to call Social Services. If she still doesnt listen, go over there, wheel his a$$ to your house and keep him there.
Feed him a good meal, and let him relax in a clean house.
Those two things alone can do wonders for one's mental state.

Maybe he has forgotten what it is like to be loved by someone after all this time. Maybe he will start to realize some things.

I think that is what I would do if my best friend was living like that.

You can't help him until he lets you. And that won't happen with her in the picture. Let him know that you would love to help him get free of her but that you can't help him while she is there sabotaging your efforts. Be kind and loving but firm. Yikes.
