Wannabefree...guess what I got in the mail today!?!?!?!?

You're out of dirt? Just put them in regular old dirt if you don't have anything else, and as you stack, you can add composted manure and such to the next tires. The plant will still get the nutrients. Plain soil with manure tea to start, and you should be good to go.

Yeah I guess I could go down the hill and steal some from the slope. I bet its pretty good soil. Up top near the house the dirt is awful and really no place to steal from.. Without risking an ankle breaking hole.

I will have to try.

Do you have any old planters with soil left in them? maybe? It really doesn't take as much as I put in there to get them started. I have read somewhere some folks just use about 2 cups of soil per sprouting spud. The base of the plant needs the nutrients, not the entire root system apparently. Taters are funny like that it seems :D

Yeah, now that you mention it. There is a huge pile of soil a gopher/mole piled on my patio. Kinda funny. The hill off the patio is really steep so as it dug the soil spilled down onto the pavers. It would be enough to get things going. The year before last I used the wire basket method. This past season I planted in my raised beds. The potato plants took up way to much space. I think I will go back to the wire basket.

Won't hurt to try.

:hu

Let me know how it goes or you! sounds like it will be just fine :)

If you lived closer, I'd let you have all the horse manure you wanted.
