Primarily... cost is also a factor. I know it only takes a few months to get them to processing weight, but I can't afford the extra feed right now. I can't free-range to supplement. I have been following the meaty thread that Bee started and have picked up some great info for when the time is right.

I'm going to insert myself here, Good luck on the meaties! I won't tell DH but this may be your last batch Mine were HORRIBLE. I lost several chicks, but they stank to high heaven and are so gross to process. I even free range and it was still bad. Be careful when you free range because they will get in the layer feed and INHALE it. It hurt my production, and I trough fed then. So be weary for that.... but other than that good luck!

Yeah...curiosity killed the cat. I mainly got them to see what the big deal is about them. I want to know too if it's something I would pursue regularly or not. I'm thinking not, but you never know until you try. I decided this would be the year to give it a shot, and either get over it, or go with it Nice reasons for getting birds huh? I just HAVE to know/see/do/feel for myself. I may regret it

Today is the funeral, AFTER I take the little monster(niecey) to her harvest festival at school for an hour. The big monster, DD, is off still sulking in her room after last night. She brought her report card in yesterday. 3 B's 1 A. While that is NOT a horrible report card, it is not up to par with where she usually is, and we have fought to get her to study, so her daddy grounded her. Oh the drama She got beligerent and smart mouthed him............not pretty. He's still so mad at her. I thought last night she would shut up, but noooooo, she couldn't do it Stupid kid. I've been on her all week about that mouth and now she knows. It is a RARE occurence that I don't have to handle it, but I didn't have a chance to call her down. DH grounded her so fast it made MY head spin More power to him, now we can share the hateful glares. They're not all just for ME anymore JK..it sucks, but it's better to be hated with someone than alone sometimes..especially with my current stress level. I'll be glad when she grows up and moves out so there are no ugly mean conversations in this house I just hate all the drama and arguing she brings to the table. :/

Anyway, off to take little fidget to her fun day. I hope to be back on later. Maybe I will get to. LOTS to do today though. See you all when I see ya!

DD slacked this time around..admittedly, and doesn't think she should face the consequences :/ If she weren't normally a straight A student, the B's would be fine. We just want her to cosistently live up to her potential. She's getting the "don't care" attitude, so daddy busted her little bubble for her. She'll get her head out of her tail now.
