Okay I'm awake!! I almost forgot to go to the neighbors and feed/water/run sprinklers/let the cat in

It's done now though.
In other news....we as a SS family, have poultry and such, hatch/raise our own, and occassionally we have a chick/duckling/poult hatch that we just don't think is going to make it. DD has a snake, so as in nature the weak and sickly go to the snake to feed him. I know some would disagree with this practice, but it is the way of nature and is not wasting the birds who would die on their own anyway. Don't judge. Anyway, enter little one eyed cross beak turkey poult....three days old, hasn't been seen eating/drinking etc. so...as much as I hate to, snake has to eat and I hate to just watch the little one starve to death, so in he/she goes last night. Peeping ceases after about 30 seconds. Assuming the baby was no more, we go about our daily tasks this morning knowing this is just part of the circle of life and there was nothing we could really do other than what we had done. So this afternoon, hubs goes to check on the snake, and to both our amazement...this little one eyed bugger looks up out of it's good eye and.. peep peep!! It has a nest in there all huddled up staying warm......in the center of the coils of a 5 foot long ball python

NOW I don't know WHAT to do?!?!?! The poult is 4 days old today, the yolk sac is gone, I don't want to see her/him starve to death, but the snake, for whatever reason...has given it a reprieve

Won't eat the bird. has moved around the bird, knows the bird is there for SURE, but won't touch it. The poult seems to be strong, and it really shouldn't be. It SHOULD be weakening due to lack of nutrition. So we took it out and put it back into the brooder. I hope the poult makes it, but I have my doubts....but after THAT sight...I couldn't just leave it there!!! Apparently the little thing wants to live and the snake agrees it should have that chance. :/ I hope after all this it does! So weird. Maybe they know something we don't?
Another happening on the farm...I have a VERY VERY broody Buff. She is on 4 chicken eggs and 3 duck eggs, and WILL NOT budge *sigh* I tried to run her off a couple of times to check to see if she was serious or just being a pain...she aint letting me have em! She's molting, and hasn't been laying for a few weeks, so maybe she just wants to steal everybody else's kids I dunno

But I wonder if she'll sit the whole time on those duck eggs? Muscovy goes 35 days

Anybody know?
