They are in black hard rubber water trough for horses, how do I fix that?

Wrap it in cardboard, above the edge of the trough so breezes can't get through.

I live it I have 4 different aged birds running around, and it is a circus

auto-correct editors are funny. For April's Fool's on a site I help manage, I turned the auto-correct on and had many of the common words used to convert something else. Guess you had to be there to appreciate it....
