because it is hot outside and it would be a lot harder to keep them watered and alive - once it cools off seems like a better time to plant than now. but hey, who am i to say?

Loring is just starting to ripen, once loring is done, so is our peach season. Our lone loring tree still tastes like sweet grapefruit to me. It's our least favorite peach tasting wise but perhaps the best looking peach. However, It's still a favorite because a loring peach is better than no peach at all. This isn't near the largest on the tree, its just one that I checked and it's ripe. The fruit is still clean which is a major milestone reached for me this season.

I thought maybe if I let loring hang ripe on the tree a little longer, it's flavor profile might change. Nope the flesh just gets more red and it still tastes like sweet grapefruit. I noticed it doesn't even have much of a peachy fragrance either. But it sure is a pretty looking large peach. I'm no expert here, but I highly suspect this variety was bred for the supermarket. Where appearance and weight are top priorities, with flavor being near the bottom of the priority list .

Trying to give this peach every chance to remain in the orchard and not be replaced with another more desirable variety.

While it may not have a "peachy" flavor profile, it's sure a pretty picture! . However, you're not there to grow a picture! Being redish, it's not even a good peach example picture.....sigh....I wouldn't grow more of that variety if the taste was just "ok" ish. The pit is sure clean to separate. Make jam with them.

The red coloring in the flesh is a sign of an abundance of anthocyanins.

Just because there is no specific study of loring, doesnt mean any thing. I have eyes to see.
