What did you do to save $ today?

Great finds, ldychef2k!

I cooked. ;) We had a ham on Mother's Day and I saved the bone and made soup! I had never done that before with a ham. Along with the broth and ham pieces, I added some lentil/rice/pasta dry soup mix and some diced potatoes. Very yummy!

Also tonight I made another batch of granola for cold cereal. I love that stuff. I have very nearly weaned our family off store bought cold cereal.

I find that homemade yogurt lasts for many weeks, even months. That is why I make such big batches....I wait until I have enough milk to fill my cooler with quart jars so I only have to do it once in a while.

Sniff test!

Of course, I am starting with fresh, raw milk, so store-bought might behave differently. About a month or so ago I found a six-week-old bottle of milk in the back of my over-stuffed fridge and drank it. It was not even sour, just mildly "goaty," the first time I tasted that flavor that people complain about with goat's milk. Made me wonder how old the milk was that they'd tasted or how it was handled.

I made another batch of laundry soap yesterday. My last bucket lasted several months. I really can't remember the last time I bought any. At least a year ago if not longer. What a huge savings!!!!!

I made my own breakfast sandwiches this morning. 2 sausage patties (hand formed) with 3 quail eggs (baked in a muffin tin) and a slice of cheese in each. Cheaper than McD's and no useless muffin to throw away :D

Wow, Ldychef2k, you scored!!!

Here are some of the thing I did this weeke to save some bucks:

Made a new batch of laundry soap
Hung my laundry
Made yogurt
Made scrambled eggs (surplus from our chickens) to feed the chickens, the dog and us
Dehydrated bananas FIL brought over (he got them for free)
Made a large pot of minestrone soup with our own produce and froze left overs
Froze uncle R's marinara sauce that FIL had brought over
Rehydrating kefir grains I got from Freemotion
Fed our own carrots to goats and rabbit
Harvested greens for salads
Harvested and cooked fava beans
Harvested artichokes for our dinner
Used lemons from our own tree
Feed goats and rabbit greens from our property
Cook our own meals
Collected rainwater to water our plants
Stacked our assorted lumber, so we can see what we have
Use little bottles of shampoo (from hotels) that FIL gave to us, instead of buying any
Fed dog homemade (using our left overs) meals
Wear our old clothes unless we go somewhere
Received 3 fig tree starts in pots from neighbor in exchange for letting them use our chainsaw to cut wood from their downed fig tree.

Ok, that's all I can think of right now ;)

Made 1.5 pounds of paneer cheese with DGDalmost14. She was fascinated! We seasoned it with pizza spice and sun dried tomatoes. She wanted to stay for the 48 hours until it is drained, just to be sure she got some !

2 things....

1--left the AC off, even though it was well above 80 degrees out.

2--cooked enough for DH to take on the road with him all week, for breakfast and supper.
