What did you do to save $ today?

I waited for a 40% off coupon from Borders to buy a book I wanted and got it today. I try to keep a list of the books I want and then get one with my coupon. I also keep an eye out for those books at other sources, but I just love having lots of books in the house.

I also researched about the cough my goats have, found the product to use and got it for about $20 less at our local feed store. It was marked for cattle, but it is the same stuff for goats, just a different label. The dosage is the same for both too.

I fancied up our salad by going through the garden and picking bits of greens to add to it. I found a few asparagus spears, green garlic and carrots. I got interupted or I would have found more. It will still make the salad a bit more interesting.

I also signed up for baby stuff and am getting samples in the mail, which I give to DD for her newborn baby.

Oh, I forgot! I need a fan for my new incubator (cheap still-air from TSC) and it was suggested that I use a computer fan and wire it to an old cell phone charger. I have old chargers but needed to buy a fan....then I thought to email a friend who is a super computer nerd. He is mailing me a fan today! Free!

And the roosters are getting braver, one was out with the hens today, crowing up a storm. I see chicks in my near future. We picked up two free 5.5 month old roosters on Saturday, a Golden Laced Wyandotte and a red one of indeterminate breeding but looks like a heavy laying breed. We ate all of last year's roos as I needed new genetics in my flock. For the price of one order of chicks (the incubator and egg turner) we will have plenty of chicks for a long time, and maybe even, finally, some turkey poults! Woohoo!

Today I am making bread from scratch instead of buying loaf bread from the store. I would like to get back on track again in making all of our bread. Especially after reading about what's in the store bought loaf bread. There is so many things that I can't pronounce it's scary...So many preservatives....

MMMmmmm... there's nothing better than home made bread!! My New Years resolution in 2010 was to make all of our bread. Except for a couple of too-hot-to-bake weeks in the summer, I did it. By my calculations, I saved us about $200 over the year AND I can pronounce all the ingredients!

Yes, I agree, and the smell of that fresh bread baking is wonderful... now I'm thinking about making some cinnamon raisin bread too....
That's a great savings over a years time and not to mention how much better the homemade stuff is for you....

I've been baking my own bread lately as well. The last loaf turned out awesome. Compared to those "artisan" breads in the store for a small fortune........I've seen some as high as five dollars a loaf!

I am off work for three days. I figure I save alot each day I stay home. Starting last years seeds, doing some sewing and taking care of our animals, making soup. So enjoyable...... I work 12 hour shifts fri, sat and sunday.

This is so true....I save tons of money by staying home. I used to go to town almost daily and buy things from the Dollar store and such....but I have found this website called alice.com and you can have things shipped right to your door for free. You have to have an order of at least 6 items and shipping is also free... I can't beat that. Some of the stuff is actually cheaper than the dollar stores too. I usually buy the big 24 packs of Angel soft tissue paper and it's 10.00 at the Family Dollar and it's only like 7.00 on alice so that's a big savings plus I'm saving gas by not driving to town. I love that place.

How do you google coupon codes for a product that you want?

We need to buy potting soil, so we can start our plants. Last year we bought cheap soil and payed the price. Our starts did not grow well at all. Our pepper crop was pitiful. So this year we are getting good soil, even if we have to search the soaf cushions for the money
