The Difference Between North and South thread got me thinking about the term Redneck. Denim Deb had an excellent response, part of which I'll quote here "Around here, a redneck is normally looked at as someone more rural than city, and ready to fight for what they believe in, as well as frugal and making due w/less instead of more.". I believe that the "making do with less", is at the heart of the matter, as well as coming up with creative solutions to problems.

Suppose that you always wanted a house boat, but could never afford one...

Suppose you had a hankering for BBQ, but didn't have a grill...

Suppose you're out, and that shirt that you wore is just to hot for the occasion, AND you just happened to have your husband or boyfriend with you...

Granted, most "Redneck" creative solutions do involve Duct Tape.

Some involve A LOT of Duct Tape.

Some however, are just dang funny! Like this Fire Alarm....

ROTFLMAO! I had never seen or even heard of a pair of tighty whiteys used as a top before!

:lau. Some of the more "inventive things" especially using duct tape remind me of dh. The other day we got a new charcoal grill and didn't have any rope to tie it in the truck. Dh grabbed some old haystrings and a roll of duct tape he had under the seat and taped it in.

Hey! I resemble that remark! Dem rednecks in Arkansas is so dang funny, ya'll!:lau

:gig Sooooooo glad I swallowed that last mouthful of coffee before I opened this thread! :gig

Hmmm, I'm needing some new tank tops and doc just got some new drawers and was wondering what to do with the old ones...NOT!!!! :gig On second thought, I might just have to make one and wear it just to mess with certain parts of the family...:gig

Some of my favorites that I've seen since living here are:

-a street bike with a huge, hand-held flashlight duct taped to the handle bars for a headlight

-an older Ford Ranger that used a horse shoe (the game type) to keep the drivers door closed

Oh, what I see when I don't have the camera with me! :gig

I used to have a dirt bike, a Honda XR 80. My one problem w/it was it didn't have a headlight, so if I wanted to ride at night, I used a flashlight. Don't recall now how I strapped it to the handlebars. :D

And for my outside fire, I use an old oven rack to cook over.

:lau Thanks your for the pics!!! Sooooo funny!! :gig

I think the pop corn is the best.

Using duct tape on your handle bars with a flash light is very common while we MX in the desert. Riding without a headlight is a big no no and will result in a huge ticket.

Now...to me, those solutions didn't seem too bizarre. :P The only grill I've had for the past five years has been a galvanized washtub stand~sans tubs, a hog trough and some chicken wire. Do you realize just how many halves of chickens fit on a hog trough grill??? :) Rednecks are just the ultimate SSers, but with flare.
