Nodding head. Small steps are the best way to go. You take more of them, so you actually get there faster than if you tried to just make one great leap.

put the money in the home in your 'if needed' hideout.

I have about $2K in the house for 'need cash emergencies'

if you expect hard times, cash to have when needed fast is a good thing.

one of my 'need cash fast' times is heading off to the casino in the mountains, not recommended for that tho

when your own reality smacks you in the face, it is also time to prepare for end of life decisions on how to change over to live great without giving up 'most' of your lifestyle'

I hope I planned for that :p

Yes. Having a cash stash is always a good idea. BTW, do you ever come out ahead when you go to a casino? My sister goes occasionally, and says she has a good time, but she can afford to lose more $ than I can. Besides, I am just too ......what's the word?.....Miserly....to go to a casino. I learned miserly-ness from my DH, lol.

Is there anything you can invest in which you will be able to use to make more money? An incubator, perhaps, to incubate eggs and sell chicks? Anything you can make and sell that will bring in more income, then you'd be able to invest that into something else to make money. Also, the more you produce, the more self sufficient you'll end up being.

Saving money is always good but investing in something that will be able to make money for you is also good.

Hmmm. Maybe I need to see if there is a need for chicks around here. It seems this area is sharply divided between old-school self sufficient types (butchering and big gardens), and those who don't know which end of a chicken the egg comes out of. I prefer the SS types, personally, but the possibility of creating some converts is tantalizing! We have a small NT group in the area. I just recently found them and am trying to make some connections/friendships with those like-minded souls. I may be able to come up with something marketable for NT folks, or one of the farmer's markets we have. Ooh, that sounds like work!!:/
I do like the idea of incubating specific chicken breeds, perhaps heritage breeds. You all have so many good ideas.
