CEO of Dhs company told us all back in early November that things were OK and they would stay open at least through April and reassess then. This is a huge company many many sites, not a little firm hanging on by their teeth.

Then December rolls in and they announce on the news that it is being closed permanently! This is how some people found out they were losing their jobs. Others found out when the state police were brought in to escort them out.

So then the state brokers a deal that they will help look for a buyer if the company would mothball it for one year instead of tearing it down. CEO holds press conference and says yes.

Buyer turns up but it is not enough money.

Today CEO goes on the tube saying it's being torn down within the next few months.

The only hope is that nothing else he has said has been true so this probably won't be either.

Sadly, many people, especially business folk do not believe in being truthful and honest anymore. They will decieve people in order to get what they want, it is all to common practice.

I know of a man who is closing his shop in January, but refuses to inform his employees, because he's afraid they'll quit ahead of time. So instead, he'll not tell them anything, lead them on and then come New Year's inform them they no longer have jobs. No two week notice or anything. :/

I can only hope that the CEO is trying to find a way out of this and really doesn't know what the bottom line will be.
In our area the pulp mill was sold to a chinese company, who went bankrupt without paying bills due then a group of local people bought it, intending to process pulp as tissue plant- but then the recession hit and they couldn't get the loans they needed to get new equipment so it was going to be sold in pieces - latest is some European company might want to buy it.

It's a dang soap opera with people's lives. It also has caused a crisis in the city's water system which was designed to supply lots of income selling water to the pulp mill. So they have propsed to raise city water prices by 50% or more- now there is a recall petition circulating to remove the water board as if this is their fault.

I'm so sorry you have to have this going on- bad at any time but really bad at this season. I do hope it all works out for you and this turmoil is soon a thing of the past.

Seriously, it makes me understand why there is workplace violence. It is SO not okay, never, ever okay, but I understand why some people snap under such crappy treatment.

Good grief. That just stinks.

We watched the movie NEW IN TOWN last weekend. I wish things could always turn out that way. The manager who was sent to the factory to close it down fell in love with the people, and cobbled together a deal so the workers could own the plant and keep it going.

You gotta love a good holiday feel good movie!

Too bad since Milton Friedman came along the invisible hand was only around to pick your pocket!

I'd be more inclined to think he was trying to work something out if he hadn't turned down a perfectly good sale offer because "the money wasn't good enough" to counterbalance the tax write off he can take for closing the pace down. And he gave himself a nice $400,000 bonus for his business acumen.

Anyway, utter hysterics? After you work for this firm for 20 years - nice and nuts by then - they give you a present for your service - a rifle!!!

THere are like 6 people who should be getting their gun just before they close the doors!!

Apparently the rifles are not being given out until after closing - they sent out letters saying that your loyalty prize would be mailed to your home....

But, the main questions: will this guy ever stop lying? Apparently not!

He promised the state he would mothball the place for one year to give them a chance to find a buyer. Then a rumor started flying that a buyer had been found and everyone got all excited, now he tells the press they will start the tear down in June. November to June is not a year according to my calendar. And I really would like to know who started the rumor, they must have been very believable because it went viral. Now, people, myself included, are twice as dejected. Knowing you shouldn't believe something you want to hear does not keep you from hoping it is true.
