I just put to use and old skill I saw used in eastern Europe when I was a child.

I harvested about a half pillow case full of ripe navy beans. That would have been a lot to shuck out by hand. So I took my meat cleaver, laid the bag of beans on my living room floor, and started hammering. Then I scooped the husks out and beat a little more.

Then I got a pot and my colander, took the stuff outside and gently poured the contents from one pot to the colander and back again until the chaff had all blown away in the gently breeze.

Now I have clean beans, ready for the soup pot.
