Yesterday we got the pallets we're recycling as wood for our coop!! Woot woot! My DH borrowed a circular saw from my FIL and bought the screws at our local feed store. now to enjoy date night and plan how we're gonna afford fencing and to use DH 's welder to our advantage.

You'll have to post pics when it's all done.

So excited for you! I hope you don't end up finding that it cost more than you planned (which happened to us).

How's the new coop coming along? Have you picked breeds yet?

DH got the pallets torn apart and sorted. he plans on starting the frame after work today. I'm not allowed to use power tools lol except the mower. I'm too accident prone. the coop is his pet project and the chickens are mine. we got a number from our landlord for someone nearby with a mess of chickens and we wanna wait till its all done before we go look cause i'll wanna bring them home before we're ready hehehe. so I've been trolling BYC and learning what i can. We hope they have buff orpingtons

I'm the same with power tools, except I just need to go near someone using one to have an accident! Have you looked at the coop designs on BYC? You can also type "pellets + coop" into the search bar on site for plans and pics etc. There are some great designs over there.

Buff Orps are lovely! I hope you find some.

We're going very basic for our first coop. later we'll make a right fancy one. i definately plan on painting the shed and coop like an old fashioned barn hehehe already found the paint ($30 for the coop, probably around $60-$90 for the shed) can't wait!

That's not bad! Coops and housing is usually the most expensive part of getting started. I bought a new coop once (and bought the chickens a day before it's expected delivery, but that's another story) and said never again. It was so expensive and woefully inadequate. I'd rather build one from scratch, or recycle an old shed or something similar.
