I have one of woodwizard's drop spindles, too! I need to get off my duff....or get on my duff....and learn to use it.

What is a Lazy Kate? How is it used?

Very beautiful--All I have is an old marble egg for darning socks.

I can finally retire my burned-out lightbulb! I worried about it with a toddler and dogs. And I worried about replacing it since everyone is going to CFLs!

There are rods holding the spools that would be full of spun fiber inside the box. (Just so you know, this is not the only style out there but they serve the same purpose). It holds the spools so you can ply from them. You can also use them to hold spools of plyed yarn and wind them on a ball winder, or niddy noddy or nosteppin.

Here's a link of a Lazy Kate in action;
