Weird and curious question maby but does anyone else find that most recipes don't make enough liquid for the amount of jars/cans you use?


I usually run about even or just a tad short. I stuff a lot more fruit in the jar before adding the syrup though. It looks like some of those jars of pears will look 1/2 and 1/2 pears and syrup after canning.
I stuffed em till I wasn't sure any liquid would reach through, but somehow it did lol :) I'll have to take a pic when I've a moment to do so of the finished product. Some of the cans did come out looking like there wasn't enough pears at all and others came out fabs... All of them still looked better than the store ones I've seen lol

I'm hoping so! Had some of the finished salsa that was pretty yummo, I'll be eating the beans later this summer and I've been told to wait about 2 weeks on the cowboy candy for the flavor to meld and mellow. With how hot the car I be peppers were I'm definatly going to wait :I had some of the extra sauce on some pasta and phew!! Spicy hot even when cool!

Made some lip gloss for the first time today!! :)

It was a recipe I found on Pinterest that's a Burt's bees copycat. So far, not sure how I feel about it but two thing are for sure!
firstly I never knew most lip gloss tubes only hold about a tablespoon of liquid lipgloss- and I've been paying how much for that?!?

Here the so far finished product, little rough cuz my hands aren't always steady but I clean the extra gunk off :)

And secondly the recipe definatly made way more then ten tubes lol- more like 48 I think and two bigger tubs I borrowed from my crafting table cuz I ran out of tubes and little paint gloss tubs.

Guess I've enough to accidentally lose a few here and there now lol just hoping none of them end up in the dryer like far to many of those ones I buy at the store ;__; and a few to share with some of my coworkers :)
Now that I know how easy it is I may just be buying the stuff and taking the time to make it every couple of months from now on!
Even with tubes, Shea butter, peppermint oil, beeswax and vitamin e oil all together I spent about what I'd pay for about 7 tubes of Burt's bees gloss.
Next diy, I think is gonna be some body scrubs -nod-

That is so cool! I told DH that because I have two goats in milk now that I'm going to learn to make soap. It's so awesome to learn a new skill!

I think their kinda waxy currentlly for me their not smooth enough, think I figured out why though-
The recipe used a lot of wax, which from what other recipes ive read is not normal. So their stiffer than usual. Might remelt the tubes and oil them a little more then repour to thin it or just give em away for free lol

I want to get into soaping as well!!

@Britesea I have a freezer full of Chevre! We love it. I make plain which we use like cream cheese and I add garlic and/or rosemary to some. It's delicious and easy to make. I've been tempted to try some hard cheese - just haven't made the jump yet. :)

I made a very respectable grating cheese just using the recipe for hard cheese on a packet of Junket Rennet. It was amazingly easy. The hardest part is figuring out how you're going to press the cheese. Mine is a year old in the fridge and still fine. It has a very sharp flavor so I just need a small amount to add tons of flavour.
