We had one get hit a few years ago. She was old, and went about a mile from home! We were going nuts when we couldn't find her. She had been doing poorly all winter, hadn't wanted to go for walks, hadn't wanted to go outside, etc. But the weather had finally warmed up and she liked to go out and look for mice in the hay shelter. Since we live on a dead end street, and she hadn't wanted to walk, I never even thought of her going that far.
Got all the chickens moved to the coop except for the bantams. Got the ducks moved to the duck house today and they finally got to have their pool party.
I used to be really nervous about canning meat -- so many stories out there. But now I realize that if you follow the directions carefully, and keep your area nit-picky clean, your meat is less likely to be tainted than the stuff you buy at the store
