NH Homesteader's journal

Such a pretty turkey! What's his breed again....something brown something? LOL - sorry I'm brain dead these days.

Holy cow - 39? Wow! We are fairly cool because of constant cloud cover and rain. But, we've had really blustery wind all day, and that is keeping it really cool.

He is a chocolate turkey. That's all we have now and we love them.

Umm I think you have good reason to be braindead!!

DH is grinding the last of the pork now and then we're going to go through the freezer and organize everything we jammed in there while processing. Get everything together that's going to his friend's to be smoked and hopefully we'll have bacon soon!!

We have to do some hoof trimming tonight, at least one gal we need to get to. Hers grow so darn fast. So that's productive. There's something, lol

Well, wanted to get one girl done and we did all 3. Just have to do the boys in the next few days. Made us both happy we didn't get sheep. We don't have to tackle the goats and it's still a pain! Lol

DH also resumed working on the master bathroom, cut out a bunch of wood for shelving. We managed to salvage our non-productive day!

Beautiful turkey. That's a maybe project for us next year. Right now we're focused on the chickens, then adding rabbits. Can't quite seem to handle the garden and the animals yet. Plus we want bees... Maybe tilapia, oh and more fruit trees and blueberries... Lol... It's easy to get ahead of ourselves when we read stories here!
I understand your frustration sitting still. I know when M is off, he often just wants to relax, and that's when I want to get twice as much done. Poor guys!

Sure! Why not? I actually have never learned how to do them, my husband does it. He does shots too, I do the feeding and entertaining, amd prepping needles for him. He grew up on a farm, although he never had goats, so he's better at it all than I am.

Yeah, it's especially hard right now because I am not allowed to do anything! So I end up with a list of stuff I need help for, lucky him! Lol

Oh, and I don't always handle the animals and garden very well. But the animals win and if the garden flops (like most of mine did this year), the animals eat whatever half grown plants survive lol. We are both animal people, and we do a garden because we believe in raising and growing put own food, but neither of us do it because we enjoy it. I am trying to find a system that makes me enjoy it, maybe next year!

Clifford is growing well, getting the fuzz going (beard and top of the head fuzz). My wether had been pushing him around for food, but Clifford just realized he's bigger than him now and told him off. Haven't seen any push back from that!

The girls are on diets. I found better hay, and changed their grain, and apparently they do not need very much of this new grain! That won't do for breeding season!

Meat birds come next week, only 20 this year. I don't want to deal with them but the darn hawks have taken a bunch of our chicks and we must have chicken in the freezer!

With not feeling well, I have been slacking in the food department. Spending too much on not the greatest foods... Crack down time, I'm feeling better and winter is coming!

I don't need sheep.... I don't need sheep... I don't need sheep...

Arg! Friend said we could have the 3 I'm interested in, in trade for DH helping him butcher them. SO tempting. But DH has no time. And we have to sit down and talk about what our homestead needs. And I'm pregnant. And hay is expensive.

Remind me I don't need sheep...
