Welcome to my journal. This is where I'll post up-to-date topics on what's going on over here at the Knickerbocker Homestead. Please don't be afraid to comment, I'd be more than pleased to chat!

Well, to get the fun times started, this ought'a be my first entry! Bronze my young (assumed to be) Cockerel is turning into one sweet bird! Reminds me of his Father (Magnum) who I adore. My Father thinks Magnum would make one scrumptious roast but he's my baby... Then we have Annie. Annie is Bronze's sister. She amazingly tempered and very sweet. We're keeping her in the house until she's old enough to fend for her little self. Granted my arms are scratched more than an antsy bee-stung houndogs'... she's worth the pain! :D

Cool! What kind of chickens are they?

Hello! Well, the ones I had mentioned are all cross bred. Magnum is a Buff Brahma/Delaware/Dorking, Bronze is a Buff Brahma/Delaware/Dorking/Faverolle and Annie is the same as Bronze!

Yay, another journal! :) I love reading about you all's doings. What breed(s) chickens have you got?

And thank you for visiting my journal! :D
Let's see what I have; Orpingtons, Wyandottes, Partridge Rocks, Cochins, Sussex, Faverolle, Australorp, Delaware/Dorking mixes, New Hampshire, and Brahma. Haha, I think I've gotten them all!

That's a lot of different breeds! What color are your Orpingtons?

Indeed, haha! Quite the busy place over here. Well, I've always had Buffs and they've been the first breed I ever owned. My mind juggles if I should get some Lavenders' in my next (future) order of chicks. Orpingtons are wonderful!

Hello and thank you! Indeed so, there's a few here and a few there... turn your head... oh, look, another chicken! Haha. :p
That's wonderful, how many birds do you currently have if you don't mind I ask?

So, there's nothing ultra new over here at the Homestead today except it being a fairly beautiful evening! This morning I got to see my first Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker. You see, birds are practically my life! I hope to have a career in Ornithology in the future and I love watching birds now. Anyhow--back on topic, haha; so the Sapsucker hit the glass door and I got real worried. Walking outside, she was alright! Her wings were spayed out and her body was a little startled so I picked her up and held her (a juvenile female) until she gathered the gumption to perch on a branch. What a strong bird! Within a 30 minute range she flew right off! I loved seeing that. :D

Birds are lovely, especially chickens ;) I use to have over 100, but I had loads of space to range them on. I miss that big flock. Down to just two hens at the moment (Sussex and an OEG LF)

So glad that lovely bird didn't injure herself. It's so sad when they fly into glass windows and doors and do.
