I was pregnant with my son over summer in S.A's brutal heat and I remember wetting sheets and wrapping them around me to help me stay cool. Pregnancy and summer is no fun!

The swamp cooler helped you before and should help you again this time. Anything to stay cool and comfortable!

The only thing I can see that would make a swamp cooler uncomfortable would be the humidity if you didn't vent the house.

Well I have decided to do something a little different in the garden this year. I wont be putting hills in and I'm going to mulch my garden. Why I'm not putting hills in this year is I should be able to get more plants in the garden this way, and I relay don't have the energy to deal with all of that nonsense. I'm hopping the mulch will help cut down on the weeding and watering this year. Its looking like we aren't going to have the well till about the middle of the summer, and its looking like its going to be a hot dry year.

Mulch is definitely the way to go, especially in light of restricted water access. Even when there is excess water, mulch makes sense. b/c it holds the water like a giant sponge, then releases it slowly as the underlying soil requires.

The first time I put mulch on my garden I couldn't believe how much less water it needed. Really the way to go in areas where you don't get much summer rain

So we went to the kids health and safety fair today and come to find out that instead of 72 hour kits they are recommending 2 week kits now for emergencies.

Interesting. The authorities are learning that they can't guarantee being able to solve everything in 3 days now...
