Could be due to folks still working on Friday? Most folks plan yard sale shopping for their weekend. You might be surprised at how many folks show up on Sat. and Sun.
Next door neighbors closed up early yesterday, between the weather and minimal traffic, not worth. Very few folks out now, too

You know, I've noticed less excitement and participation in yard sales around here too but it could have many factors...a big one right now could be the 'rona crapola.

Even yard sale prices ya need money. A lot of folk are hanging on to every penny since they don't know where the next one's coming from. I've been very grateful that there are a couple programs in our area, giving out boxes of free veggies and fruit from local farmers. Our gardens are only just getting started around here, with all the late frosts and cool days. Getting your fruits and veggies for free means you have some money to buy protein of some kind. People around here are just naturally careful with their money since this area has been economically depressed ever since the bottom fell out of the logging industry, which happened when I was very little.

I too feel folks charge too much for yard sale items nowadays....didn't used to be that way. Yard sales are primarily for getting rid of stuff you no longer want and if you make a bit of change on the side, that's all good. If they wanted more than yard sale prices there are tons of ways of marketing such things now like FB Marketplace, CL, etc.

If you do have some things for sale that are a bit more valuable than $5-$10, then price those accordingly, but all the other things at the sale need to be rock bottom prices in comparison if a person is going to move the junk. If I walk up to a yard sale and the first few things I pick up are more than a dollar, I just walk away....no one wants mismatched dinner ware badly enough to pay more than that, IF that. I'll be more likely to buy such things if they are $.25-$.50. Tools I'll pay more for, but nothing more than $10 and only if in shape enough to still use.

I also love those yard sales that have things that are sold by the bag, like books, baby clothes, etc.

recently i've been able to clean up a bit more since the planting is done and i can start putting away the boxes and containers of seeds i got out for scouting to see what i wanted to plant.

first i put away all of the seeds/samples/packets/etc from what i planted this year so that come fall i will have it all together (because some of what i grow gets sent back to the person who sent the beans to me). it is nice to have it all in one box and clearly labled.

next round i want to get the box tops of beans that i grew in 2019 rounded up and put into their own box (or boxes).

these yearly boxes are apart from two other collections i already have going (one is a container of four seeds of most of what i grew each year) and my main boxes of beans i've been growing or working with for the past 10yrs or so.

on top of this i downsized my worm bucket collection so i have a bit more space in my room to do other things. a few extra square feet of floor space is nice. :)

i also got rid of (i.e. shredded) some old computer manuals that i'd gotten rid of the computers a few years ago. this gave me enough room to consolidate two boxes into one and the other empty box went out into the garage to be used for other things. i still have a lot of stuff to get rid of here, but as i keep chipping away at it there is improvement as it makes it easier to find things when you don't have to sort through so many boxes.

on the downside, i was really hoping to be able to take a lot of my give away bean samples i made up for the seed swap this past late winter to a library event, but due to COV-19 the library didn't have any events and i've not wanted to advertize or have people come over. so i have three extra boxes sitting here with bean samples in them that i was hoping to have gone by now. i can keep them for next year's seed swap so they are not a loss, but they do take up space...

@Beekissed I think you nailed it. My wife suggested we put out a full size bed frame, and said we shouldn't accept less than $100 for it, i suggested we might be lucky to sell for $50. The pricing discussions also cooled my ardor for participating.

Was over visiting with the landlords at their place. She was pleading "just make an offer" to the visitors, need to get rid of everything there. 6 groups came through, not even a single offer, even with tools.

Did she have anything priced at all? I won't make an offer if I don't know what their original price was, as I don't know where their mind is and I don't want to lowball it too much. I'm not that good at dickering but I would never make an offer unless I saw a price line first. Now, if she had them way overpriced, that too could be an issue, as a person doesn't want to let a person know she has way over valued her junk.

A reasonable price and it's actually got a price tag on it, I'll look at someone and say, "Will you take any less for this?" if I really want it and if they say, "What will you give?", then I'm off to the races.
