Some years ago - ok a lot of years ago - my DH and his buddy took a motorcycle ride from the Houston area to Mt. Rushmore. They were gone 11 days. I took a long weekend during that time and rented a beach house on Galveston Island. Just me, the dog, a couple good books and as I recall quite a bit of good wine and food, lol. Sunrise walks, lots of people watching from the balcony and another walk at sunset. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Sometimes it's quite ok to be your own best friend!

Panic time here... the annual "almost winter " freak out.

I see a pile of wood at the edge of the parking lot... got to move that in the next few days.

Almost winter in September ! It's predicted to be around 80F here today, and sunny. Have to do more mowing. There are a lot of black walnuts to pick up. I'll pick up some acorns too and freeze them. This past winter the deer, or whomever, really appreciated the stored up acorns that I put out, since there were none last year because of the drought.

Talked with the son last night. He is already planning next year's summer in Alaska. Going to be part of the hunting trips, not just fishing. He is so excited

Talked with the son last night. He is already planning next year's summer in Alaska. Going to be part of the hunting trips, not just fishing. He is so excited

Had dinner with him last night. He is talking about making the move permanently, including all the needed licensing to be a registered guide.

So proud of him that some teachings stuck. He was low man in the hierarchy, but joyfully did what was needed. Helped tend the garden with the skills I demonstrated, cooked better than the hired cook (cook left a week before the camp shut down), and was helpful to older customers with mobility issues, and even entertained the kids of the owner's friend with smores

He is hooked for now
