Before DS6 was born, my first baby purchase was an older pack n play from an auction (for $1). I used it in my barn. I pulled a sheet over it when not in use to keep it less-dirty. When I did barn chores I put him in the playpen. It worked out great. I didn't use it in winter though!

Another SS-specific baby purchase was I got a little baby beach tent for my garden to keep him out of the dirt and sun. That one was definitely worth it. I used in in winter power outage - set it up in the living room, put blankets over it, put a dog and cat in it to warm it up for kids. I pulled it out in January to break up the monotony. Until it broke :( It lasted 5 years, not bad.
I had both of these!! the beach tent was really nice-just make sure to check as it can get stuffy in there.

No swaddling while sleeping-not a good combo. Are you going to co-sleep? Or would you like them to eventually be in their own cribs? If you want them in their own cribs, put a bassinet or crib next to your bed for ease in the middle of the night but start from day 1 with them in there. If you are co-sleeping there are some wedge options so you won't roll onto a baby--or you can sleep in a recliner-I did that for many weeks as it was just easier and then I didn't wake DH either.
