The Bread Thread - including quick breads, gluten-free and grain-free

I got a slicing guide. My slicing skills suck. I need to start making smaller loaves so we get through before they get stale

cut and freeze half. we double bag loaves of bread and they keep for quite a long time. we also keep bread in the fridge and it keeps there too for quite a long time.

when we went out shopping last week Mom said she wanted to buy bread because she didn't feel like making any so we picked out a loaf of multigrain type bread. she finally got around to having some the other day and said it had a lot of sugar in it. :( i'll still eat it and she probably will too...

Mom told me to make a bunch and freeze. That's what Grandma did when she was a kid. Bread was made once a week. With 6 kids, even with how little people used to eat, they went through bread

Yep that's what we do... Freeze it until needed, so it's doesn't mold. It's a lot easier and cheaper to walk to the freezer, than it is to drive to the store 🙃

Don't feel bad. They suckered me into buying a bread machine.

the only time i've owned a bread machine was when a friend said they had one they weren't using and so they gave it to me. i would use it to mix and knead through the first rise and then the 2nd knead, but after that i would proof it in a regular baking pan or just use the dough to make pizzas.

i made a lot of different types of breads/crusts back then because i was getting enough exercise where i could eat a half or whole pizza myself in one meal. i burned out the control board for it eventually. i kept the motor and still have that on a shelf here just in case i ever need to do some small windmill projects to generate some juice or perhaps harness all these chipmunks...

...We live in carb jail over here. :hit

i should be... :( Mom bakes so often it is very hard for me to resist. cookies, pies, muffins, cakes, caramel corn. even when she says she's not going to bake again for a while a few days later she'll start up all over again. in the past few days she's made four peanut butter pies, several hundred cookies, chocolate browny muffins and today it has been blueberry muffins.

if i had no self-control i'd be huge - it's a challenge though at times.

I finally made my first successful sourdough starter!! The dough was going great and I let it rise, but right before I did the weird folding thing to the dough before putting it in the pan I remembered you aren't supposed to let sourdough touch metal and I used a metal mixing bowl. I threw it out to be safe :hu

I think I'm going to try again to make another starter today since I didn't save any from last time
