How to spoil a perfectly good cow

We use mint on cows udders all the time to increase circulation... there is even a commercial product "Uddermint" so I'm sure it's safe. We use fans for the mini-Jerseys... the Dexters just don't ever seem fazed by the heat.

Best breed of cattle for new, small herd?

We raise Dexters for milk, meat and seedstock breeding animals. I really recommend giving them a good look. My beef animals sell for $3.75/lb hot hanging weight, directly marketed to consumers. My breeding quality heifers can sell for up to $2K at weaning, which is what you might hope to get for...

Reduce it to 40 pounds. You do usually have to turn a cheese over half way through pressing.

I have a dream....but little to no money

Pay debt down with half, buy a piece of land with the other half. Buy the time you get the land paid off your credit will be fixed and you can use the equity of the land to build a house.

    Help reducing grocery bill?

Let your local butcher know you are really on a budget. He can call you for older meat that needs to be frozen NOW. Also learn to love bone broths. Most butchers will still give away bones and you can make some super nutritious and delicious food with them.

First things first... you have to have a job. Until you have income, repayment is impossible. Sometimes it's baby steps.

With so many critters to feed we are always looking to do it on the cheap! Our local feed stores call us to pick up at a discount any feed with damaged bags, protein tubs with cracked covers, any feed with weevils (our pigs don't mind the extra protein). Just being known as 'scavengers' has...
