    General Power Saving Tips

Hi guys, Wow, feels like a while since I've been on here! Oh dear me... This country mouse has to move to the city in just a few months time! I've only ever rented, never owned my own home, and whenever I've rented, I've always snatched up the deals where everything is included in the rent so...

usedteabag - or, how I learned to stop worrying and love the Journal

So, I broke down and started recording everything my partner and I buy. As I've mentioned before we're moving to Halifax in September and there is a distinct possibility that we will not have two incomes at that point, as he might be going to school. So not only am I planning on saving a lot of...

    How much did you plant?

Will be moving come September, so the garden this year is limited to the things that will be ready by late August, early September, or sooner. --> Tomatoes, 12 plants: 10 are Amish Paste, 1 Snow White, and 1 Zebra --> 1 row of golden beets --> 1 row of broccoli--first year with this, and I...

Hi luvinlife! And I don't blame you for loving life... it sounds idyllic. I have to go to work in a few minutes but I'll reply to a few of the things in your lovely post. That would be fantastic! I tried using coconut oil as a conditioner as someone suggested but it left my hair fair too...

Been a long time! But I haven't been inactive outside the internet world... :) (First of all, got a new computer recently which is much easier to type on and thus motivates me a bit more to update.) The garden has been the primary focus this year. I can't lie, in the years past, while I've...

I have a meat slicer! ... Now what?

Ooohh, dehydrated stuff is a good suggestion. I just got a dehydrator for Christmas from my father-in-law and am always eager to find new uses for it! Thanks!

    Orange cleaner! Alternatives?

Hi all! Found a fantastic recipe for orange cleaner, here if you're interested: http://ybertaud9.wordpress.com/2012/04/16/diy-citrus-cleaner/ BUT. I live in Nova Scotia and it's difficult to find citrus grown locally (I have my sources... But still, difficult and inconsistent). Is there any...

I have a meat slicer! ... Now what?

Slices of bread are a great idea, I do ALOT of homemade baking. I did use a big commercial one in a kitchen I worked in, but mostly just for slicing cheese. Definitely everyone is right, I will keep my fingers well clear!

I have a meat slicer! ... Now what?

Thanks, everyone! I'll set up places at the table for you. ;) Sugar cured ham sounds lovely! SSDreamin, I'm thinking about bones. Since you say you worked in a deli, just wondering about the huge chunks of meat they use to slice. How are they boneless? I am a total beginner at this as you can...

    How I want to live...

You know you're short when... Everyone else is calling this a hobbit house and the thought of being too tall to live in it didn't even cross your mind. :) I would LOVE to live in a house like this.

    Non-electric simple food cooler (video)

Oooh.. I really like this. I saw a CBC clip once of a young couple in PEI who live a fridgeless life. This looks like a similar method to one they used.

I have a meat slicer! ... Now what?

Hi there everyone! Well, I tend to be very picky about kitchen gadgets, especially when I work hard for my money (cue the music) as we all do! But...this time, I didn't pay! As many credit cards do, mine allows me to accumulate points as I use it. Not unlike the Chuck-E-Cheese I went to as a...

Right, sorry...I'm on celcius here, and 20 C is actually quite close to 70 F. :) Hurray! :weee And I'm actually going to try the coconut oil, baking soda, and ACV tonight! Will report. I'm still taking advice for other suggestions, too.

usedteabag - or, how I learned to stop worrying and love the Journal

Hwillm, it's 20 degrees here in the Valley and lovely! If it weren't for the snow covering the ground, I might be prepping my beds today! I also was fully jealous of everyone who planted crocuses and they get to see the first flowers pop up every year. So I bought some bulbs last year and...
