Somehow there's a white one in there...not too sure about that...they were all guinea eggs in the bater and not a single one of them is white

There's a lavender one too, which is awesome but the majority of them are classic guineas.

I was wandering what you'd been up to. Now I know!!

All I can say is that I need a vacation. There's been a TON of stuff going on both at home and at work so I'm wicked busy trying to find that middle ground again.

Mix all that in with summer time and it's a big old squash bucket o stuff going on.

Hope it all turns out well. This heat is doing me in. I'm getting nothing done and there's a ton to be done!

I want guineas! I know I might regret saying that someday.

We had one once and it was a disaster. Our neighborhood is not guinea friendly. Minnie Pearl was loud and unhappy here. She went back to the lady who gave her to me. that's the short version!

they're so cute before they grow their clown masks

& forgive me if you know this, but having newborns on straight newspaper can sometimes cause splay leg if they can't grip it well enough to stand properly. paper towels are better for the first 48 hours

Actually, I didn't know that but it does make a lot of sense when you think about it! I usually put the newspaper down so they don't break their legs or get them caught in the wire cage bottom. I'll switch it out when I get home this afternoon - Thanks!

I had 6 more hatch overnight for a total of 15. 1 didn't make it past the pip stage and another is stuck in the pip stage and barely breathing. I wet the membrane slightly so it doesn't get shrinkwrapped but I don't think it's gonna make it. There's about 15 more eggs in there - 6 of which were set about 2 or 3 days after the initial batch so I'm leaving the rest in there until Sunday or Monday. A few others have pips so we'll see what I end up with. I started with 39, tossed out 6 or 7 duds and have 15 keets, 1 dead and another on the brink which puts me just under the 50% mark with a few days to go still. Hopefully more will hatch today!

Hen - you're so right about the noise from them. They are our personal alarms...if someone shows up and we're not home they squack up a storm. If we're all out in the yard they're nice and quiet until they sense something in the air or in the distance - then it's a huge er-ER fest and birds flying everywhere. We have 2 or 3 adults that are the watchers...they'll sit perched up on the wall or fence and just watch while everyone else forages. They are really amazing except for when they 'forget' how to get to the other side of the fence and just pace back and forth trying to figure out how to get back home.

The one we had flew about 30 feet up in a tree, refused to come down and woke all of our neighborhood up at 4am. I was not popular that week. We tried keeping her fenced with the chickens and the first time she got out something possessed me to chase her around the neighborhood, dressed for work at 6 in the morning. It was ridiculous!!
