annual dentist checkup today. cleaning, x-rays, checkup all ok.

mom wanted to do some shopping so she dropped me off at the dentists and went to do that and right when i was leaving she came in and got me - that worked out perfectly!

we went for some burgers and onion rings out as she had a gift card to burn and brought extra home for another day's grub - i'll be well fueled for tomorrow's digging. :) i'm going to have it cold for breakfast (ok, maybe i'll give it 30 seconds in the microwave to take some of the edge off it)...

next two days of nice enough weather in the forecast so i will be able to finish up the current garden and start on the next one and then a day or two of rains so i can recover, rest up and shell beans out and then back at it again after. it is fine with me to work around the weather as long as nothing is an emergency. :)

i needed a nap this morning and woke up a bit ago and it was a good nap indeed because i got some dreaming in and was laughing at it because it was a silly dream about Mom singing some song wrong and me trying to get her to sing the right lyrics and of course she wasn't going to comply with that. :)

the more funny thing to me was that that song had nothing to do with the music i'd been playing for the past few hours.

as i'm waking up Mom is crashed out in the other room next to this one snoring so i've put on some other music for her and i'll wait a while yet before going outside so she can rest up her back. she gets up pretty early and works on quilts until she needs a break.

on to a new garden today to put up, i'm so excited! well, ok, i'm mildly enthused but the happy part will be going through and picking any dry beans that remain for me to harvest that i've missed up to this point or have finished up since the last time i went through picking. since there are likely actual beans to pick it will slow me down a bit but it is ok as i'm not really on any kind of a schedule other than working around the weather (and some days "whether or not i get my butt out to do it")...

yesterday what beans i could find in there that looked interesting and in good enough condition to pick were picked.

today a little rain this morning, windy and i wasn't sure what i would do outside.

i did have some food scraps to bury and a garden i wanted to scrape because there was some grass starting up in there i wanted to head off before it started developing seed heads. i don't think there's any rains in the forecast for a few days too so that is good for getting those scrapings dried out.

after the day cleared up and warmed up i went out and scraped the garden and then buried the scraps in there since it was as good a place as any.

i didn't feel like fighting the wind to work in another garden so called it good enough.

yesterday when making split pea soup (with ham, celery, onions, tomato chunks, and carrots) Mom was trying to get the water to heat up as fast as possible with the two 3 gallon stainless steel pans that we use the most. one of them had a funny issue with the bottom where it bubbled/bent down and then it wouldn't sit on the electric coil heating element right.

a sad event because we get a lot of use out of those pans and i like them. it feels and sounds like there were two layers of steel somehow bonded together and the bond failed. i hope the other one doesn't have that problem, but no matter what we did get our money's worth from the pan as we probably used it several hundred times over the past few years. i know we didn't spend much on it.
