Weather....sadly, so true & devastating. Some farmers in South of us can't even plant really, wasted seed. Plus some ground just too messed up to even work it. Things planted will have poor yield. Pretty scary really -- financially for farmers, consumers will be paying more for what little...

Don't be afraid of pressure canning. Many of the "horror stories" were from times back when they didn't have the safety feature the do now. First time might be a nervous event 😵‍💫😉 but, then it's a breeze. I actually like to can but, sometimes the food prep is time consuming.

Yes!! I remember that 70s gas "shortage".... My uncle worked for BP. Said not shortage, they had gas everywhere stored! Higher prices. My driving is 99% to go to work!! And we had rain all day, soft rain. Not sure how much yet but a welcome amount!! 😁

Gas was $4.19 today at fill up....some stations were at $4.29 🥴 only needed 3/4 tank but $69. still. Tmrw the car gets a fill. :oops: dang.

Depending on location, there are a lot of root crops that can stay in the ground a lot longer into "winter" than you might have even considered before -- easy storage. Carrots, turnips, parsnips, beets, potatoes, etc. And collards, kale, brussel sprouts, cabbage, can survive some pretty cold...

My goats are friendly -- sometimes too much so 😁 They have big personalities, memory like an elephant, and super smart! Be careful, you'll become attached.

Wasn't eating apples I got on super sale, almost free 🤫, and a few were getting soft. Those went to goats & chickens for treats. I peeled & diced. Canned 3 quarts. I'll use them eventually. 😁

This year I consider it to be a HUGE need/consideration for everyone to grow some portion of their food. The economy is not getting better & costs, plus weather, is going to impact farmers in way we haven't seen in a loooong time!! Summer & Fall will have far more costs for food bought.

I always check store prices to keep myself in line & appreciate my time spent in prep/canning. Been doing a good amount of meats. A pint of chicken, home canned is a solid 16oz. I add nothing beyond salt, finished product has some broth. Maybe 2oz. A small can at store is 12oz, 3...

My mower is gas BUT, I let my goats do the back & side...so less to mow. I'm good with that amount. Now, diesel for tractor to bushhog fields... 😵‍💫 Gotta bite the bullet sometimes. Goats keeps most down for me.... occasional tractor therapy tho.

I have some ham & some pork loin canned. It's been good. Convenience factor is great. DO IT ! 😀 Day trip planned for tmrw but I have cabbage & thinking I'd like to can some stuffed cabbage rolls. You know, make all the "mess" in one go for several meals. 😆 Maybe Sunday

For many, that rain would be a huge blessing. Savor it. The southeast is having a major drought -- big farming disaster. Crop losses. It's something everyone will feel at the stores come summer & fall. 🥴 NC, GA, FL...serious setbacks. I'm seeing some yard gardens this yr that weren't as used...
