All I wanted for mother's day is a meat smoker, boy did I get some strange looks when I told people. Anyway, there are no directions with it so I need some tips and recipes. It's one of those 3.5 ft tall vertical smokers. I can't wait to use it! :D
this is my first time with turkeys so I choose Midget Whites. I figure they are small and easier to handle. If all goes well I will graduate to bourbons in a year or two.
That's great. I'm slowly wining the sustainable food war here also. I snuck some turkey eggs in the bator last month. It was all good until a week before the hatch. DH descided to look in the bator..."what are those big eggs in the back?...(me) They're midget whites. (DH) Midget White what...
I doubled the pans up. It worked well. I tried to keep the fire off the bottoms, then my husband took over for a few hours while I ran the kids somewhere. The fire was rolling when I got home! I boiled all day and there was a hole in one of the pans but didn't go through to the next pan...
Here's a couple pictures of or maple syrup production. My one DD really is into it. This is our first attempt, so far so good. It's boiling as I type.

I sell jams and jellies at our local market. Right now its once a month and I sell out pretty quickly, about 30-40 jars in about 2 hours. I work full time and have a semi large family so that's all I have time to make. The state did have to come and "inspect" my kitchen, which was free and I...
I am so excited also. I have a couple sugar maples and 3 huge silver maples. Where is a good place to buy supplies. I would like the traditional buckets and "taps".
Ok so my father every year is determined he is going plant as many potatoes as possible. Last year he planted about an acre of about 6 different varieties. The fall comes around and he needs a ton of help to dig them all up. We usually come up and dig a couple rows for him...which takes about...
How much of a dose do you give you son? My daughter is prone to colds. We have a wonderful (warm/sunny) extended fall and she was heathy as a horse. Now that it is in the teens we don't go outside very much and the first cold of the season began this week.
I want to learn how to keep a couple hives of bees. Any tips, advise and cheap/free resources would be greatly appriciated. Anyone build an easy hive that doesn't require a ton of wood skills?? I'm going to learn over the winter and hopfully invest in the spring. Thanks
I'm going to try to learn how to start making cheese. Any tips or advise? What's the best milk to use? I'm looking for something to win my family over, so a mild not so grassy milk would be best. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
