    Deoderant is inherently evil.

i use about 3/4 lavender and 1/4 tea tree. i haven't had any irritation problems, and I am allergic to fabric softeners, metals, and have sporadic psoriasis... but my armpits and feet are always fabulous and fresh. my gym partner the other day (I re-spritzed prior to my workout) asked if I...

    Deoderant is inherently evil.

I combined lavender and tea tree oil in a little sprayer, and apply one spritz to each pit in the morning. I still smell good now.. at almost 8pm, after a long day with 3 kids at a museum, carrying a backpack and running up and down a zillion flights of stairs. Also works great on feet.

    FS washable reusable menstrual pads

I want other colors.. maybe darker colors so I wouldn't worry about staining as much.. I hate the smell of disposables, not to mention the chemicals.

Preparing Your Emergency Stash Without Gas Or Electric

I've made regular stove top stuff on my woodstove... and tried a covered aluminum camping set INSIDE to make an apple crisp. it was terrible. I also made cornbread in a covered cast iron skillet on top of the woodstove, which, after I cut off the burny bottom, and ignored the pale dimpled...

Bug Out Bag... what is the minimum I need?

I would bug out in case of fire, or if my husband turned into a zombie and we had to get out... or if for some reason the FBI issued a manhunt for myself or one of my kids... in case of spreading virus, or general economic disaster, we'll certainly stay put.

Bug Out Bag... what is the minimum I need?

8, 4 and 5. the little ones weigh 35 and 46 lbs respectively. the 8 year old is 60lbs+ i think. and strong. We've got a lot of the important stuff, it's just not organized or ready to go. :)

Bug Out Bag... what is the minimum I need?

I have looked at all these B.O.B. kit lists, but I have 3 kids, and there is no way I am going to be able to haul all that stuff anywhere with my little kids too. If I have to have just ONE regular sized backpack (EMS, or LL Bean school pack), what should be in it? If I have a lot of time to...

    Silver Coins WTSHTF?

I have heard a lot about having silver coins (pre 1965) to use as currency after TSHTF... how am I supposed to know how much they're worth, and how much should I have on hand?

    Canned water

I accidentally canned some water while sterilizing my jars and lids... somehow a jar and a lid got friendly, and were REALLY stuck when i pulled them out. after a few weeks of this water sitting on my counter, I pried the lid off and had a drink, just to see if canning water was a good idea...

    American Corn Cutter

My dad just sent me one for a belated Christmas present. I intend to buy a bunch of corn this coming summer/fall, and freeze/can enough that I can avoid buying canned/frozen corn at the store. (we can't grow corn on our land, space constriction, as well as repeated failed attempts)... has...

I want to know how many of us just tried sticking a bra cup on our faces.... for us bigger gals, they could make little lacy eye holes for us to see out of...

Making my first Garden Soup of the season... on my woodstove

I also made an apple crisp, in a covered aluminum camping pot... i cooked it too long, and it was a little burnt, and very mushy, and it tasted a LOT like woodstove. in a gross sooty kind of way... hope the chickens will eat it.

Making my first Garden Soup of the season... on my woodstove

I made cornbread batter, and put it in a well greased metal pan. then I stoked the woodstove up a bit, and put a cookie cooling rack on top, (about 1/2 inch clearance) and then the pan on that, with a metal lid covering it. about 8 minutes later, removed the whole thing, flipped the cornbread...

Making my first Garden Soup of the season... on my woodstove

I have a woodstove. It doesn't get much use because we are mostly a middle class kind of family, with propane, and crock pots, and a microwave and a toaster oven, and an electric griddle. Anyway, our finances are kind of bad lately, and we owe the propane company a TON of money and our tank is...

    Shelters!!!

my father called, and I told him to check out those websites.. he said if you've got a defensible location, some gas in cans, a chainsaw, and access to good water, you're fine. He also expressed his doubt that we'd need to go underground, but agreed that at some point we might have to be...

    Shelters!!!

There are many shelters available for purchase throughout the US. I occasionally get all fired up about when the SHTF, so I thought I'd share some of my findings here, away from role-playing chicken-children... My favorite site to drool over is Radius Engineering... they have AWESOME...
