:welcome I'm fairly new here too. We're in NC. I grew up in PA.
Sounds like you've got a good start! Small acreage is fine...lots of potential! It's all in what you make of it.

- I read so much as a child that it drove my mom and grandmother crazy
- at 10 I wanted a globe for...

I also buy yeast in bulk and freeze it. Works like a charm, saves $$ and I'm never out.
Can't help with the Crisco, I never use shortening. Not that I'm so against it, I just started cooking without it years ago and never have it.
I'm so excited! I found a source of raw milk. Straight from the cow, into the bulk tank - then into my container. :D I called, got their schedule and am going this morning to make my first purchase. A wonderful member of our CSA turned me onto them.

Last night we had ...

Fresh Cauliflower and Fresh Broccoli from the garden
Applesauce we had canned in the Fall
Homemade Whole Wheat Baguette

Nice job, keep us posted!
I always enjoy pics of your pantry. I still think your did a wonderful job with the layout and building those shelves.
It looks like you have a large selection of fruits. Maybe serve some of them chilled to further highlight canning? And do you make yogurt? You could offer homemade yogurt to go...
