Anyone make $ from selling breads/baked goods?

Many thanks to all of you! What interesting experiences and advice you have. Very common sense, too. You all sound like fantastic cooks. I talked to my husband about sending things in for his break room. I guess there is a work committee that buys and resells things for snacks, and then...

    Favorite ways to eat oatmeal

Thanks Everyone for all the info on the oat rollers. I did not know you could roll your own oatmeal from oat groats. We've been eating irish oats from Bobs Mill, cooking them in the crockpot mostly. We have a grain grinder, so DH and I thought we would just grind the oats if we grew them...

    Very Sad - Mr. Q (1991-2010)

I am sorry too for the loss of your cat; it is the end of the childhood era for your kids too. I hope you have a few pictures of him. We had our Golden Retriever put to sleep last fall- I am especially missing him now when I am working outside putting in the garden. He was always wanting to...

    Favorite ways to eat oatmeal

Hi freemotion- You mentioned that you used home-rolled oats. Do you grow your own oats, what kind? How do you process/roll them? We love oatmeal too, and would like to grow and eat our own. We have a little patch of the hulless oats started. On another thought- could you buy and use...

    Random Acts of Kindness

Our local Aldis grocery store requires you to put in a quarter to unlock the grocery cart. When you return it and rehook up the lock, the quarter is returned to you. It's a small thing, but I always leave the quarter in for the next person. I have had so many sad, teary days, that for me, not...

    Building your pantry/emergency stash

I try to do this a lot- then will get an extra expense and end up eating from the stash to save on grocery $. Good idea though, because you have ability to stock up when you find good deals. I have found that brown sugar and salt gets hard and clumpy when you store it. I did $5/wk (well...

    Green roof systems

the Ford Plant in Detroit has a green roof- we were able to see it when we went on a trip to the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. It was planted in sedum. I thought it was fascinating and it seemed to do a good job for them. they also had special perforated parking lot materials...

Male cats with this problem are frustrating and i'm sure they feel grouchy. Not familiar with the brand of food- keep trying what the vet recommends, may need to try several. Not cheap.' One thing I didn't see mentioned is to try to get him to drink more water. Around the house does he have...

    $0 Ideas (Create a SS Tip Sheet/Pamphlet)

Yes. Turn down water heater to 120 degrees. Learn to cook everything at home; don't eat out. Drink water, pocket the savings for another SS project. Doable get started ideas for this first part which will allow some dollars to get freed up and then on to other bigger projects.

What SS Mistakes Have You Made?

Great question; thoughtful answers. 1. Not starting soon enough (thinking we had to have a place in the country. Would be nice, but may not happen and we're not getting younger) 2. Underestimating the time a project or task is going to take- I try to always double what I think. 3. Getting...
