Congrats! And from my experience, the broodies do a great job raising them! We only have 1 coop as well, and NONE of the other chickens (roosters included) dare to mess with them! Broody hens are very protective and do a great job with them!
I know once I actually get started it'll be much easier, but I've been procrastinating like crazy!! I wanted to make soap last year, and for some reason it gets pushed to the back burner! I get frustrated with myself because I know the longer I wait the more time I'm wasting. Oh...
Ok, I have read through this ENTIRE thread and I brought my soap book to work with me so I can find a recipe at lunch. I need to get a list of supplies (oils and lye and possibly EO) together because I've got some money saved up and I'm ready to take the plunge. :D
The past 2 summers have been really hard on me, weather wise. It was so hot early on in the summer last year. This year we've barely had 3" of rain since early May. I can water the garden every day and it still looks like it's on it's last leg. The blister beetles are attacking my beans and...
Hey lady! :frow Congrats on your guinea keets!! Sorry to hear about the chickens...are these from some of my eggs? If so, I have seen some STRANGE colors coming from my crosses this year. Post pics and we can help you figure out if they're male or female! And the kitties are cute! :D
Thanks for the heads up! Hey Wanna, if you want a Kitchenaid, keep in mind the real black Friday. We got a great deal on ours by playing a few stores against each other. :D Walmart had one for something like $159? or maybe a little cheaper, but all they had was the bowl-lift kind and I...
I wouldn't compost the beans if they've got Mexican Bean Beetle larvae. As much as it sucks I'd either burn them (yee haw!) or bag 'em up in a plastic bag and throw them away. And who knows if your nitrogen is fixed or not! I remember that legumes are lazy and if there is available soil N...
Well this gal isn't a good enough friend (even a "work friend") to warrant me going out of my way to do anythign other than say, "Happy Birthday!". I think I might bring it up later, when it's not actually someone's birthday...just casually say that we had agreed to stop doing...
When I first got my pressure canner I was pretty nervous about using it, but honestly it's so easy! I still read and follow the directions exactly just like it's my first time using it, so I make sure to do everything just right. And the lid clamps on, I don't see how it could be unsafe unless...
Well I feel much better now. :D I tell ya, stress over money causes stress for everything! I don't really feel bad anymore for not participating. I think others reluctantly participate, but maybe they'll stop also. One coworker gave the spare change in her purse....it was something like...
:barnie Today is someone's birthday at work and the secretary just went around asking for money to buy a cake. We've got about 14ish people working here, and that's a LOT of birthdays! We decided over a year ago to stop doing birthdays because it just got too expensive, but now for some reason...
I'm so sorry to hear about that, SD! :hugs Maybe you can figure out if there are any endangered or sensitive species on your property or in the immediate area and argue that the power lines would disrupt those species? :/ That's all I can think of.
Yeah, that was a good mental picture. I wonder what the horse thought? Someone once told me they only had a single cow, but they knew she was in heat when she would mount the propane tank!
